So why the move to Substack?
Perhaps you know or perhaps you don’t, but for quite some time I blogged (is that still a thing?) on a Wordpress hosted site. It’s still up and running at the moment. You can check it out at www.jkennon.com. So why this move to Substack? Is it just because it seems to be the thing to do for many?
1. First, a confession…
My posting and interaction on my jkennon.com has been pretty sporadic over the last few years. I wish I could blame COVID, but I can’t. I did spend some time writing The Cross-Shaped Life a couple of years ago so it’s true that such a writing project would hamper my consistent posting. But still, what about the last couple of years?
2. So I have a dream
I would say I have a goal, but perhaps it’s just a dream. Maybe I should say I’m trying to develop a habit. But it’s really a dream at this point. A dream of which I write and post weekly. And a dream which needs to become a habit. When I first started blogging, I posted something almost every day. That was probably a bit much both for me and those who decided to plod through what I wrote. There’s really no way I could keep such a pace today. So I’m gonna stick with throwing some words out to the world one day a week. Probably Friday.
3. Substack is a bit more manageable
I’m not a technology guy so substack makes it much easier to navigate posts, etc…. Not that my blog site was hard to manage, but to write on substack is just cleaner (or so it appears at the moment). Plus, I follow many others who write on Substack so I can compile those writings as well.
What shall I write?
You can count on me writing things that interest me. That might sound selfish, but I’m sort of okay with that. The reason is that I write to understand. So I guess I’m asking those who read the words I write here to join me in my journey of discovery. And as you do read and subscribe to this substack, I pray you are encouraged and challenged but also at times led to question my thoughts and perspectives.
Now let me be a bit more specific as what interests me and thus, what you are likely to find here. I’m a huge college basketball fan (specifically Texas Tech) but probably won’t post much about them until we win the National Championship game this year. I also have a deep interest in street tacos, but again, not sure that’s enough of an interest to write about. I’ll leave that to the food critics.
So what will you read here? Well, I have been involved in vocational ministry for over 30 years. I also have a couple of degrees from seminary. In addition, I consider myself an avid reader. So most likely, what you will find here is thoughts about what I’m reading along with my gleanings from what it means to follow Jesus in the day to day. We will see how it all goes, I guess! (If you wish, go to www.jkennon.com to see what I’ve written in the past. Chances are it will be much the same)
Will you subscribe?
So here’s the ultimate question. Will you subscribe to my Substack? I know some writers charge for some of their content on Substack, but not sure I’m in the same league as them so all content will be free (or at least for now…depends on the need for home repairs)
